My name is Leanne Hunter and I have a passion for the planet that borders on obsession. With so many new and exciting things to discover, it is no wonder I am always out somewhere exploring with my trusty camera.
I am a SCUBA diver and I have always had a curious fascination with the ocean. There is something about that majestic blue and the rainbow colours of the creatures that inhabit it that makes me sometimes wish I had gills! There is something peaceful and tranquil about the oceans. They are filled with mystery and wonder.
My passion for the planet and the oceans began at a young age. It comes as no surprise that I studied Earth and Environmental Science at the Open University. My final year topic focused on Laysan albatross (Phoebastria immutabilis) and the impact that plastic pollution is having on these beautiful birds. My undergraduate degree really opened my eyes to some of the environmental issues that are impacting our planet today. I felt inspired to do something to make a difference and so I pursued an MSc in Biological Photography and Imaging at the University of Nottingham. The MSc course focused on scientific imaging, professional photography and science communication. I combined my photography and writing skills to write a book on the seabirds of the Isle of May in Scotland for my MSc dissertation. I wanted to create something that would raise awareness of the environmental issues that are impacting seabirds. I am currently working on a publishable draft. I want to use my knowledge and my voice to make a difference, even if it is only in some small way.
My curiosity meanders down other avenues too. I am wild about nature and I absolutely adore travelling. I travel regularly to photograph wildlife abroad, to experience other cultures, and of course to SCUBA dive. I am a massive foodie and I love to eat amazing food on my travels. Travel really inspires me. Nothing pleases me more than discovering new cultures and ways of life, it has been a most humbling experience for me.
When I am at home (in the UK), I focus on photographing wildlife, nature and landscapes.
I hope you will enjoy sharing my journey and discoveries and I hope you will enjoy my beautiful images.
